A public school teacher from Canlubang, Calamba, Laguna launched his own classroom food pantry project. Teacher Christian Obo initiated this project to help out his hungry student who doesn’t have snacks. He said that he has been doing this since 2017 to help those who are in need. According to him, he has also experienced the same scenario while growing up.

“It’s payback time. Ang karanasan ko nung elementary and high school yung nagturo sakin na bigyan pansin ang mga ganitong problem”, he said.

He’s been receiving a lot of positive feedback on his classroom food pantry project.

“Sabi nga nila wow! Para bang ano, parang ang sarap pumasok.”
“I always make sure na talagang walang magugutom sa classroom. So kumbaga there’s no reason na hindi sila pumasok, kung walang baon, hindi problema.” he added.

According to him, new students are still getting used to this project because some of them are too shy to ask for snacks.

“As of now, medyo siguro nahihiya pa sila per may isang beses lumapit sa akin, sabi, sir pwede po ba ako kumuha ng biscuits? Sabi ko, pwede naman it’s all for you. It’s all free.”

Sir Christian has been teaching at the Kapayapaan Integrated School in Calamba City for nine years now. He plans to continue this project to give aid to struggling students.

“Kapos man sa buhay, may ibang paraan ang Diyos para mapunuan ang mga kulang, at lahat ng mga batang nakatanggap ng tulong itutuloy ang circle of kindness hindi matatapos, laging nagpapatuloy lang.” the teacher said.

His grade school friends, Dominic and Jenelyn, wholeheartedly contributed 3000PHP each to make the project possible.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic happened, teacher Christian along with his friends and siblings provided aid to underprivileged students through allowances.
