The Department of Education (DepEd) has conducted a review of the existing four-quarter school calendar and identified several limitations, including recurring class disruptions that reduce instructional time and contribute to learning gaps, increased teacher workload, and reduced learner engagement, especially among vulnerable learners. To address these challenges, the Department of Education is adopting the Three-Term School Calendar to promote more continuous learning, provide longer and more flexible instructional periods, lessen ancillary and non-teaching tasks of teachers, and ensure a more manageable workload. Ultimately, this reform aims to strengthen the quality of instruction and advance improved, more equitable learning outcomes for all learners. In line with this implementation, the department also issued the Budget of Work DepEd Trimester (3 Term BOW) K-12 for school year-2026-2027.
The Budget of Work DepEd Trimester (3 Term BOW) K-12 is a structured, DepEd-compliant tool designed to help K-12 educators systematically organize curriculum content, teaching strategies, and class schedules. By dividing the academic year into three terms, the BOW enables teachers to plan lessons efficiently and ensure that all required learning competencies are covered.
Learning competencies are distributed across three distinct periods to maintain a balanced and manageable learning pace. They BOW covers all subject from Kindergarten to Grade 12, promoting a cohesive and comprehensive curriculum.
