Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET)

What is Licensure Examination for Teachers? – It is undeniable that every aspiring teacher is dreaming to have a professional license. However, it is not easy to obtain such a license because he/she has to pass first the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET). It is the examination that was implemented in the Philippines through the Republic Act 7836 or otherwise known as the “Philippine Teachers Professionalization Act of 1994” on December 16, 1994. The RA aims to improve teachers to enhance the educational system of the country.

Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED)

For the Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED) graduates, the examination is consist of two parts: General Education and Professional Education. Each part consists of 150 test items which will be taken for more or less 3 hours. 

Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED)

For the Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED) graduates, the examination is consist of three parts: General Education, Professional Education, and their Area of Specialization. The same with BEED, each component also consists of 150 test items which will be taken for more or less 3 hours.

General Education refers to core subjects like Filipino, English, Math, Science, and Social Science/Studies.

Professional Education refers to the subjects related to the teaching profession like Developmental Reading, Principles of Teaching, Facilitating Learning, Assessment, Child and Adolescent Development, Methods and Strategies, Curriculum Development, and the Teaching Profession in general.

Area of Specialization, on the other hand, refers to the majorship or the specific field that BSED graduate will handle like English, Biology, Chemistry, Values, Math, Filipino, Social Studies, Music, Art, Physical Education, and Health or MAPEH.

LET Coverage

Each examinee must have an average rating of at least 75% and must not get a score below 50% in any of the tests to pass the exam. For Elementary Level, the examination covers 40% of topics from General Education (Gen Ed) and 60% of topics from Professional Education (Prof Ed). Examination for Secondary Level, on the other hand, covers 20% from Gen Ed, 40% from Prof Ed, and 40% from their area of specialization (majorship). Licensure Examination for Teachers Application Process

Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) has implemented the use of LERIS or the Licensure Examination and Registration Information System. It is a Registration System in the form of a website for basic professional services like Exam Application, Initial Registration, and PRC License Renewal.

Every applicant is now required to use the LERIS for PRC Online Application. You must complete first this process to generate a particular form. That form is also one of the requirements that you need to submit to their office. Make sure to read this tutorial about PRC Online Application.

Preparation for Licensure Examination for Teachers

Every aspiring teacher needs to exert serious effort and preparation for this exam. In fact, some examinees still failed in spite of their endeavor and the reason for this is that LET is unpredictable. If you want to pass, make sure that you will do your best. Registration and Renewal of License

Successful examinees are required to undergo Initial Registration after passing the LET to obtain a Professional Identification Card (PIC).
